Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Rami 40 and Rami 51?
Only the initial meld differs. In Rami 40, you must lay down at least 40 points in the same turn. In Rami 51, you need at least 51 points and a pure run. The rest of the game is identical in the app.
What is a pure run?
It is a sequence of at least 3 consecutive cards of the same suit, without a joker. In Rami 51, the initial meld must contain one. Jokers are still allowed in the other melds laid down as part of that initial meld.
How much is a joker worth?
When melded, it is worth the card it replaces; if two positions are possible, the app uses the lower one. Under the house rules, it counts as 15 points towards the initial meld. If left in your hand at the end of the round, it costs 20 points.
Can you meld king, ace, two?
No. The ace can be low (ace, two, three) or high (queen, king, ace), never both at once. A run therefore cannot wrap around.
What does going out in one turn mean?
It means opening and going out in the same turn, before any opponent has opened. In the app, each opponent then incurs 200 points, regardless of their hand.
Who wins the game?
Points from each round are added together, and the aim is to have as few as possible. As soon as a player reaches the target of 100 points per opponent, the lowest total wins. If players are tied for the lowest total, another round is played.
How many cards and jokers are there?
Each player is dealt 13 cards. Under the reference rules, you play with 2 decks and 4 jokers, making 108 cards, with a third deck added for 5 or more players. Under the house rules, there are only 2 jokers.
What penalty does a player who never opened incur?
They incur the value of their hand plus 25 points. This is capped at 100 points and at half the target, which matters most with two players. The app uses this rule to prevent a single round from deciding the game.
What do the house rules change?
The “Reference rules” setting is enabled by default. When it is disabled, the app uses 2 jokers instead of 4, a joker counts as 15 points towards the initial meld, and a joker in a three-of-a-kind is easier to retrieve.
What other games can you play in the app?
In addition to Rami 40 and Rami 51, the app offers Canasta, Gin Rummy, Buraco Aberto, Buraco FIBUR and Samba. Each has its own help page in the app.
